We are privileged that Elizabeth Vosseller, the founder of SC2 ( spell to communicate) and her colleague Anna are visiting West Tanfield and sharing a free information evening about Spelling to Communicate for non verbal individuals and their families / carers.
Please help us spread the word about this technique which can open up the world to autistic individuals. All are welcome!
Monday 27th March at 6pm at West Tanfield village hall.
Elizabeth Vosseller has worked with individuals with complex communication and sensory-motor differences since 1995. She began her career as an SLP at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC where she began to specialize in autism. From there, Elizabeth spent twelve years as an Assistant Professor at The George Washington University teaching more than twenty different courses to undergraduate and graduate students in both Speech and Hearing Sciences and the Graduate School of Education and Human Development. Elizabeth developed a passion for clinical training through her work with field supervision and training to teachers and SLPs during their graduate studies.
Elizabeth’s greatest joy is working with clients and families she opened Growing Kids Therapy Center (GKTC) in Herndon, Virginia. In 2013 she began using Assistive Technology to educate and teach students the purposeful motor skills to Spell to Communicate (S2C). Elizabeth enjoys teaching parents, educators, caregivers, and other professionals to support nonspeaking individuals through S2C.
I-ASC, started by Elizabeth, is an association composed of individuals from the nonspeaking and neurodiverse communities; their families; trained practitioners; and informed allies. I-ASC welcomes our diverse community members without judgment or discrimination of any kind. I-ASC is committed to ensuring access to effective communication that supports agency and autonomy for nonspeaking, minimally and unreliably speaking individuals.
Anna Lechleiter, MA is the owner and executive director of PALZ (Play & Language Zone) in Ireland. Her custom-built eco-clinic/studio is situated in the quiet, peaceful outskirts of Naas town in County Kildare.
Anna is an S2C (Spell2Communicate) facilitator/practitioner and Play Therapist. As one of Ireland’s – and indeed, Europe’s – pioneering S2C facilitators/practitioners, she is trained to teach non-speaking, minimally and unreliably speaking individuals with motor differences to coordinate their brain and body to carry out the purposeful movement that enables them to spell out their thoughts on letter-boards and keyboards.
Anna has over 20 years of experience working with children, fifteen of those with autistic (and co-occurring conditions) children, adolescents and adults having worked in various settings throughout her career.
Anna's passion for bringing communication to those who most need it has become her life's vocation. It is her joy and honour to work with the non-speaking, neurodiverse community and she has big ambitions for growing S2C in Ireland.
Please come and join us to hear how we can bring this to the UK.
